You are an alchemist
“To realise one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation.” - The Alchemist
In Paulo Coelho’s iconic odyssey ‘The Alchemist’, the alchemist tells the boy, “No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn’t know it.”
We are, after all, all connected through the heartbeat of life. Love is our natural state. Through believing in and embracing love, we can alchemise. (And in the process, raise the vibe of the planet juuuust that bit more.)
To ‘alchemise’ something can be defined as, transforming the nature or properties of (something) by a seemingly magical process. But is it magic… or is it the power of love? The power of choosing love?
Let’s look at an example.
You’re in a job you despise, but choose to stay because of the financial security it offers you (i.e. fear and uncertainly). But your passion is food — baking wondrous gluten free goodies.
You work on the weekends on your creations, starting a side-hustle. You work really hard — a labour of love. Are you afraid no one will buy your goodies at the market? Sure. Do you do it anyway? Yes! Your heart spurs you on, and you feel so much better, transformed even!
People start to buy your goodies… word gets around. And so a new chapter of your story is underway; one fuelled by love this time, rather than fear.
This is alchemy in action.
Was it magic? Or was it about choosing to follow what you love. Through pouring positive action into the spaces where fear once resided, you transform what ‘work’ is in your life. Doors of possibility open, leaving despair behind. You are forever altered. Alchemy has occurred.
We all contain the potential to alchemise something. To take something sad, broken or fearful, infuse it with love and care and attention… and then watch it bloom.
Look at your daily life. The small acts of kindness you might make, or the bolder decisions you take for the highest good. These are all acts of love, and forever alter the world for the better.
You are an alchemist, and you may not have even known it.
